It doesn’t take brain science to realize that teens make bad decisions but it may take brain science to understand why. Our brains aren’t fully developed until age 25 and one of the last parts of the brain to develop is the frontal lobes which are also the areas of the brain responsible for assessing risk and making good decisions. Scientists are saying the rebellious trait of teens may have evolved from the survival advantage that taking risks provided (not just talking about the hot bad boy here). So really nothing you did wrong under the age of 25 was really your fault!!! Jokes it was!! Now seriously understanding brain development can help us better understand ‘those dang teens’ and help them make better decisions making up for what their brain is missing.
